“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” - Anatole France
I’ve been an animal lover my whole life, from my childhood (when I would wait out scary thunderstorms in my closet with our faithful and similarly thunderstorm-averse Basset mix, Mosey) to adulthood, which I’ve spent living and working with animals. For most of my adult life, I was blessed by the companionship of our sweet Shar Pei mix girl, Mushu, who lovingly helped me raise three human babies. Sadly after 16 years of being the matriarch of our family, she crossed the rainbow bridge to puppy heaven last summer. After a period of emptiness in our home, we added an adorable Puglet, General Tso, to our family. He is the light of my life (in addition to my fur-less kids!), and keeps our family laughing.
Photographing pets is important to me - not just because they are a part of our families - but because they are beings with dignity whose lives deserve to be remembered and cherished. They change our families, making them better, kinder, happier and sillier. We owe them so much, and it is my great joy to capture each animal’s essence so that he or she can live forever in a family’s memory as they deserve to be.
